CAREGIVERS, WE CAN TRUST THE LORD
Psalm 91:14-15 Easy-to-Read Version 14
The Lord says, “If someone trusts me, I will save them.
I will protect my followers who call to me for help.
15 When my followers call to me, I will answer them.
I will be with them when they are in trouble.
I will rescue them and honor them.
YOUR JOURNAL
Write a about a time when you or someone you know were close to disaster but were spared. Do you count this as luck or the work of the Lord? Why?
MEDITATION
I personally do not believe in luck. Since I’m a follower of the Lord, I believe he is always with me and my loved ones. I still remember when He did save my mother and I both from disaster one day.
My mother had severe dementia. She couldn’t speak, move or do anything for herself. I rolled her onto our deck in her wheelchair. I figured a just a few minutes of bright sun would be good for her. In the meantime, I went back inside to do something (don’t remember what). It had to be about 30 minutes or more when suddenly I remembered my mother and panicked.
I ran outside to find her body hot and her face red from the intense sunshine. I quickly brought her inside and probably gave her a cold drink to cool her.
Thank the Lord, she didn’t have heatstroke. Thank the Lord, He reminded me.
PRAYER
Lord, I praise You for Your unfailing love. I trust You care for me and those I love. Sometimes we may not know how close we come to trouble, but You rescue us. Thank you! May my love and devotion for You grow stronger. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
In this post, Veronica has created a devotional reflection intended for family caregivers who are walking a difficult and often lonely path. It offers encouragement through faith in God’s protection, presence, and providence, using Psalm 91:14-15 as the anchor scripture. SCRIPTURE EXPLAINED – Psalm 91:14–15 (ERV)
“If someone trusts me, I will save them. I will protect my followers who call to me for help. When my followers call to me, I will answer them. I will be with them when they are in trouble. I will rescue them and honor them.”
This passage is God speaking directly to those who have chosen to trust Him. For a caregiver, this offers multiple layers of comfort:
- “If someone trusts me, I will save them.”
This speaks to God’s promise of divine protection to those who rely on Him—not just spiritual salvation but often physical and emotional deliverance in times of crisis. - “I will protect my followers who call to me for help.”
Caregivers are often overwhelmed, and this line reminds them they are not alone. God hears the caregiver's weary prayers, spoken or unspoken. - “I will be with them when they are in trouble.”
God doesn't promise a life without trouble, but He promises to be present in it. This presence is a source of strength in the chaos of caregiving. - “I will rescue them and honor them.”
This is powerful—God not only rescues, but He sees and honors the sacrificial love of caregivers, even when others don't.
JOURNAL PROMPT REFLECTION
“Write about a time when you or someone you know were close to disaster but were spared. Do you count this as luck or the work of the Lord? Why?”
This prompt encourages caregivers to recognize God’s hand in their lives. Reflecting on past close calls—especially when caregiving requires split-second decisions or constant vigilance—helps caregivers build spiritual awareness and gratitude.
It challenges the secular idea of luck and nudges caregivers to see God’s sovereignty instead. It's an invitation to look back and say, “That was You, Lord, wasn’t it?”
MEDITATION REFLECTION
“I personally do not believe in luck... I believe He is always with me and my loved ones.”
The shared story is deeply personal—a moment when the caregiver made a mistake, became distracted, and her vulnerable mother was exposed to dangerous heat. But the key message is God’s mercy and intervention:
- The Holy Spirit’s prompting to suddenly remember her mother
- The avoidance of harm that could have been devastating
- The gratitude that arises from seeing God's hand even in her human error
This meditation affirms that God fills the gaps when caregivers fall short—He does not abandon them, and He protects those they care for. It brings home the truth that God is not only the caregiver’s strength but also their backup plan.
PRAYER INSIGHT
“Lord, I praise You for Your unfailing love... Sometimes we may not know how close we come to trouble, but You rescue us.”
This prayer embodies:
- Praise – for God’s steadfast love
- Trust – that God watches over not just us, but also those we care for
- Gratitude – even for unseen rescues
- Desire for deeper devotion – a request to grow in love and faith
It helps caregivers express what they may often feel but don’t always say out loud: “God, I know You’re holding everything together when I feel like I’m falling apart.”
FAITH TAKEAWAYS FOR CAREGIVERS
You are not alone in your caregiving. God sees every act of service and is present in every moment of exhaustion or uncertainty.
God protects even when we forget or fail. He steps in when our humanness limits us.
Reflecting on past "rescues" builds trust. Journaling these moments helps caregivers see that God has been faithful—and will continue to be.
Prayer deepens connection with the Source of strength. Caregivers don’t just need rest—they need spiritual renewal, which comes through honest conversation with God.
